Promise- a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen.
Waiting on a promise can be difficult due to your fears and doubts about something good happening to you. Doubt can make you believe something is impossible, while fear forces you to run from opportunities. Both play a role in life based on possible outcomes if entertained.
Did you know that God is a promise keeper? He can show you things he has for you in a vision, dream, a person, or directly. When God shows us these things, these are his promises to us. God wants us to see in advance what he has prepared for us in our lifetime. With his promises, doubt and fear can come into our spirits while waiting on him to fulfill them.
1 Corinthians 2:9 “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man, The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
What do we do while waiting for the promise? Well, that depends on the promise that he has given you.
Marriage?- During this time, spend time with God to form a deeper connection with him. When dating, compare that person to whom God showed you a man of God should present himself; if it does not align, do not move forward with that individual.
New Career?- While you may not be satisfied with your current job, you are still blessed to have one. During this time, be grateful for where you are and search for new career opportunities.
Homeownership?- Write down what you want in a home on paper. Search for classes to take and grant opportunities in your area for homebuyers.
Whatever your promise is, focus on that and ask God to show you what to do while waiting. Even with those promises, God always gives us more than we ask. His ways and thoughts are higher than ours. He always has more for us!
I remember God giving me a vision for my life and where I was during the time; it seemed impossible that could happen. Amid it all, I was working towards what God had shown me: Faith without works is dead. I knew I had to do my part as it related to earning the promise so that I could appreciate it when it came my way. With that came many obstacles and curveballs that caused me to doubt and be fearful, but I kept envisioning myself in that place he had shown me. It brought forth stronger faith in my walk. As I aligned with the promises and his word, I saw his hand in my life in real time. I saw an overflow of blessings. Everything he showed me came to pass.
Isaiah 55:8-9 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."
James 2:14 "For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead."
Habakkuk 2:3 "For the vision awaits an appointed time; it testifies of the end and does not lie. Though it lingers, wait for it, since it will surely come and will not delay."
If you are holding on to a promise, it will surely come to pass when you align yourself with the word. Aligning yourself with the word means working towards that thing while keeping his word in your heart. You do not have a spirit of fear but fearlessness. In him, you have the strength to push through difficult times, and a greater reward is on the other side of the mountain.
Strength, Faith, Courage, Patience, Joy, Kindness, and humility are the true rewards in addition to the promises.
